Choir

Mama: Tomorrow I’m going to pick you up early so that we can go listen to this choir.

Mookie: Why?

Mama: So you can decide if you want to be in it.

Mookie: I don’t want to be in a choir! I don’t want to be in a choir! I don’t want to be in a choir! What’s a choir?

That was last night. Today I did pick her up early and we did visit a session of the San Francisco Girls Chorus Preparatory Chorus. Mookie listened quite attentively, then after 20 minutes, she asked if we could leave because it was “boring.” Boring to watch, but not to do, because she said she wants to go to the group, and was disappointed she can’t start until January. It’s fortunate that she will still be five then, because when I told her it was for girls ages five to seven, she was anxious to start while in the five zone. In the meantime, we’ll play the games we learned from watching today’s session,  like singing each other high-low patterns and trying to imitate them.
