Bed in Daylight Savings Time

And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?
–“Bed in Summer,” Robert Louis Stevenson (A Child’s Garden of Verses)
It’s hard to get dinner ready when it looks like playtime. I can’t quite get it through my head that it is almost 7 p.m. Mookie will probably be able to wrap her mind around bedtime by 8:30–even with Daylight Savings Time, it’ll be dark by then–but I’m glad I don’t have to get a child to bed in Scotland.
